Learning to Grow

In the process of becoming a software engineer or cloud practitioner or embarking on any major achievement or goal, one has to develop a system that encourages them to learn and grow as an individual growth. Individual growth is paramount to personal success. The level of your success is tied to your level of growth and your willingness to embark on your own personal journey of discovery.

But how do we do this? Are we tied to the handcuffs of our DNA? Are we more tabula rasa or a priori? If we are tied to our genetic sequence, then what are will be what we will always be. There would be no room for growth or development. There would be a limit to how far we can go as individuals. But is that true? Is the level of full self actualization of ourselves defined solely by 46 chromosomes?

Carol Dweck says no and emphasizes that we develop a growth mindset. A growth mindset is one in which you are not defined by the DNA sequence derived from your parents. A growth mindset basically that by basically working hard at your craft or at the goal that you want to achieve that who can increase your proficiency. It's not easy though. It requires patience, persistence, and perseverance. It requires belief that you can achieve that goal that you're reaching for. So don't be concerned about the failures that you go through. Those failures are lessons to help you achieve your goals. They are steps in the right direction. So don't be overly concerned from the mistakes that you make. Make them and learn from them. Then move on. A better you is waiting for you on the other side.
